Our Current Elders
These are the men who are serving as elders here at RCC. Elders serve the Biblical functions for the church as described in Acts 20:28; Ephesians 4:11-12; 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9; James 5:14-15 and 1 Peter 5:2-3. Here's the "skinny" on these leaders in their own words...
Bruce Hays
I have been an elder at RCC since January 2008. I have been married to Lynde for almost 39 years and we have two adult sons; Brady, who lives in Kansas City, and his wife, Anne Marie, have two daughters: Alyssa and Addison. Brett, who lives in Springfield, and his wife, Sheri, have two daughters, Isabella and Evahleigh. I have been fully retired since 2005 after spending over 35 years in education as a teacher, coach, athletic director, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent of schools. Our family has been a part of RCC for about 15 years. I have served RCC in several areas of ministry including: greeter and server; volunteer administrator in the office from 2003-2006; building trustee; small group leader; elder; finance team chairman; and I have served on several committees. I surrendered my life to Christ in 1954 while attending the First Baptist Church of Marion, Illinois. Our family attended church regularly for years and my parents were committed Christians who made sure my brothers and I attended Sunday school and church each week including evening services on Sunday. My favorite Bible verse is Matthew 18:19–20.

Carlena and I have been members of RCC since 2003. We have two beautiful daughters, Cha’vet and Chelsie. I am currently a state employee for Illinois Department of Human Services and a Small Business Owner. I grew up in church . . . my father has been a minister for 48 years. Yep, I’m a PK! I rededicated my life in 1980 for service in the Kingdom and was blessed with going to Lincoln Christian University in 1989. At RCC I’m involved in Bible classes as student and teacher, share in an accountability group, and participate in a small group with my wife Carlena. It has been my privilege to serve as an elder at RCC since 2006. A few of my favorite verses include: John 3:16–18; 2 Timothy 2:15; Romans 1:16, Roman 12:2, James 1.

We have been members of RCC since 2001. My wife, Carrie, and I have four children, three girls: Brittni, Courtney, and Megan and one boy: Taylor. I am also a new grandfather to Gracie; born June of 2009. I am currently a hospital specialist for a pharmacuetical company. In July of 1976, while attending church camp at Lake Springfield Christian Assembly (LSCA), I surrendered my life to Christ. I am involved at RCC in the Men’s Ministry, Worship Teams, Sport’s Coordinator and have taught 6th grade Sunday school for the last 7 years. My favorite Bible verse is Joshua 24:15 “as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Michael Peterson
Susan and I have been married for 25 years as of May 2009. We have three children, Drew (20), Evan (17) and Abby (15). Drew was married in December 2008 and we added a daughter-in-law, Jade, to our family. I am a computer professional currently working with Hertzberg-New Method Inc. in Jacksonville. We have attended RCC since December 2004, and we transferred our membership in July 2005. I gave my life to Christ when I was 11 years old and was raised in the Methodist church and had my membership there until 1996, when I renewed my commitment to Christ and was baptized into the independent Christian faith. I've been involved in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) since 2001. While at RCC I've participated in Mission Trips to Tanzania and D.R. of Congo. I participate and help to lead the Transformers Sunday School class as well as Susan and I participate in a Small Group. My favorite Bible verse is 1 John 4:7-8 and Joshua chapter 1.

Melody and I have been part of the RCC family for 28 years now. We have two adult children, Kara & Cal. I am currently a manager at Illinois Municipal Electric Agency. I have been a Jr. High and High School sponsor and teacher, I’ve been involved in the Men’s Ministry, Server/Greeter Ministry, Missions, Trustees, adult Bible studies and teacher and have been an Elder for the past 7 years. Our children were the ones who finally opened my eyes to the need to commit my life to Christ 27 years ago. I don’t have a single favorite Bible verse but one of my favorites is John 14:15–18.
